Land of Cush - Sud Soudan

Cédric Gerbehaye has been working in South Sudan since July 2010, to show the birth of this new Nation. During his several journeys, he shot the referendum organization, the vote and the positive independence, which hasn’t been a smooth passage.

In January 2005, a peace agreement was signed by Northern and Southern Sudan, thus ended the longest African civil war. As agreed, South-Sudanese people have been allowed to vote during the historical referendum in January 2011. 98% pronounced themselves for the splitting…but challenges are still strong.
Malnutrition is chronic and 75% of the population has no access to first medical cares. Intern conflicts for the power, the oil manna sharing and the border’s demarcation between North and South add further to those problems.

Without any authorization, Cédric Gerbehaye went in Nuba Mounts, South Khordofan area, to the north of the demarcation line, which separates now South Sudan state and Sudan. He met the Nuba people who fought with southern separatists soldiers for 20 years. Today, in retaliation, they are victims of aerial bombardments from the Khartoum regime.

The exhibition consists of 42 prints, underneath passe-partout in 50 x 60 cm format.
