The Other War

faux

Galerie Photo Fnac-Montparnasse

Paris (FRANCE)

From 2012-11-29 to 2013-01-31

• Meeting - the 27th October - 5.00 pm
The « Other war » is the unofficial conflict which, in today’s Guatemala, has caused as many victims as the armed conflict of the 80’s. This 90 millions inhabitants country has become one of the most dangerous in the world, with an average of 18 murders per day, out of which 98% still remain classified as closed files.rrIn Guatemala, the youngsters from the deprived areas join the “Maras”, these extremely violent gangs that terrorize the local population. General corruption, drug trafficking, human trafficking, weapons trafficking, alcoholism, incest… So many scourges encouraged by poverty, unemployment, and families destroyed by war and immigration.rrIt
is
this
reality,
which
could
one
day
become
ours,
that
the
photographer
Miquel
Dewever-‐Plana
has
been
documenting
for
over
a
decade.
With
one
certainty:
it
is
the
lack
of
education,
the
frailty
of
social
structures
and
the
complete
impunity,
that
pave
the
way
for
violence.rrHis
photographic
work,
which
can
not
leave
the
viewer
unconcerned,
echoes
the
testimonies
of
all
the
characters
of
this
“other
war”.
