The exhibition “Power” is the product of a three-fold investigation. It explores the forms of power in the worlds of politics, economics and religion. The first chapter, “Protokoll” (2007), represents three years during which Christian Lutz went behind the scenes of ministerial delegations at official events.
“Tropical Gift”, dealing with the oil trade in Nigeria, is the second part of his investigation. The first two parts of this trilogy of power have been exhibited worldwide.
The fate of the third series, “In Jesus‘ Name”, is quite different. Christian Lutz spent a year in a Zurich-based evangelical community. Celebrations and rock concerts, summer camps and blood donation rallies: he photographed all the events he was invited to attend. However, a Zurich Court of Justice banned the book immediately upon its release in November 2012 because twenty-one people appearing in the volume filed complaints, carefully orchestrated by the Church leaders, to protect their image. The book was withdrawn from distribution.
