Beijing Compound : the Contemporary Chinese courtyard by Ian Teh & Wang Wei

A traditional courtyard that is fast disappearing. Duan Qi Rui Fu courtyard houses was built at the end Qing dynasty and was the residence of the King's relatives. During the Communist Revolution these buildings were used as the offices for the army. Presently the courtyard houses are the homes of 122 ordinary families. The place is rundown, and the courtyard is not as old as the surrounding buildings. The government has issued warnings that the houses are a fire hazard and would like the families to move out.

Une cour intérieure traditionnelle en voie de disparition. La résidence Duan Qi Rui Fu fut construite à la fin de la dynastie Qing et était la résidence de la famille du roi. Pendant la révolution communiste, ces bâtiments furent utilisés comme bureaux pour l'armée. Maintenant ces résidences abritent 122 familles ordinaires. L'endroit n'a pas été réhabilité et la cour commune n'est pas aussi ancienne que les bâtiments autour. Le gouvernement, à cause des risques d'incendie et de la vétusté des lieux, aimerait que les familles déménagent.
