Alain Bizos Represented by Gallery VU' French. Born in 1947 in Paris where he presently lives. Alain Bizos is certainly the most influential French colourist due to his point of view. A former assistant to the sculptor Arman, he subscribes to the provocations of New Realism and the Nice School and has been producing conceptual works since the seventies. He works with Libération where he supported the Bazooka group and became the publisher of the legendary “Un regard moderne″ with Actual where he is a staff photographer. Through these two publications he developed a new way of understanding colour. With a hand-held, open flash, Bizos adds artificial light to naturally lit situations, thus creating a tension between an undeniable realism and a world overlapped by fiction. Breaking down the barriers between photographic conventions and formalities, he builds narratives combining photographs and texts into short films. Through this medium he narrates both the development of Poland’s Solidarnosc and the situation in Iran in the aftermath of Ayatollah Khomeini’s return.

 | Islamic revolution in Iran, 30 years ago (2009) February marks the 30th anniversary of the Iranian revolution.
In February 1979, Ayatollah Khomeyni returned from exile and was welcomed in Teheran, putting an end to the reign of the Shah. The government established islamic law in the country. |
 | ACTUEL etc (2008) In the late 1970’s the magazine Actuel was conceived. This conceptual publication put into the limelight the talents of photographer Alain Bizos, grand as his ambitions. This exposition is present to remind us of this fact. It is also present to pay homage to Jean-François Bizot, the founder of Actuel, who hired this young photographer who had never before worked in journalism. Proving that this was a mainly esthetic decision: Actuel sought for revolutionary color images. Alain Bizos created an image style; precise, powerful in color, playing with both light and movement.

Vanessa Paradis twirled around, prisoner of a cage and of the Alain Bizos' objective. The photographer is present at the shooting, reveals the truth, without any intervention. The result is the look of a photographe on the work of another picture maker. |
 | Training Camp of Liberation Tigers of Eelam Tamil, Sri Lanka (1985) The Tamoul guerrilla, leaded by LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) is poised to be defeated by the Sri Lankan government.
In 1985, Alain Bizos gave the evidence of the implantation of paramilitaries training camp of LTTE in India, in the Tamil Nadu State. The New Delhi Government contested this reality. The photographer shows us a camp in the Madras countryside, where a few guards have just some wooden stick for weapon. To the weakness of their means, those tigers respond with a determination, which makes them use, since 1972, the suicide bombers. |
 | Mesrine, Public Enemy N°1 (1979) Alain Bizos photographed the famous gangster Jacques Mesrine just a few months before his death. This series of the "public enemy n°1" was done in 1979.
Here, both of them use the other one : Alain Bizos find a subject, and Jacques Mesrine a scene. The portrait is completely staged, it's a matter of representation of the Mesrine man that everybody's expecting. It's, at least, the choice made by Alain Bizos, the only one possible with such a mediatic character. |
