Lukasz Sokol
Footpath businessmen, India
2012

In India the major employer is the street. It is estimated that more than 10 million people earn their living as minor salesmen and craftsmen often providing surprising services such as cleaning ears, ironing or knives' honing. Almost 90% of people may be characterised as self-employed. They don't pay any taxes, they don't need any permissions and certificates, virtually they can start working on the street overnight and do the job of their choice running a business to satisfy their basic needs. In the overpopulated India, the country which doesn't provide any services and support, a man can only count on their entrepreneurship.
