Silences, holy sites of Southern India
2003

Bernard Descamps discovers India, and cohabits with pilgrims in the holy sites of Southern India, in the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, old kingdoms protected from ancient invasions and cultural mixing.
His pictures absorb these holy sites, their stones, the 5 elements of Hinduism, the centuries of prayers...
These pictures are silences removed from time.
ilences shared with praying men and women, with the divinities who inhabit these places.
These pictures don't explain anything. There is nothing to explain. They show few things, the essential isn't visible. They only try to go with an emotion, the one felt by the photographer when he entered for the first time one of these temples, when the tumult of the street fades away, when the silences give room to the words.
