Inside the Courgeault case - 2009

A woman, in the dock, is waiting for the sentence of the court. The scene, which is being played out a few meters away, is scrutinized by a movie crew, through a combo’s screen.

On the 7th of December, France 3 broadcasted a docufiction recounting the “frozen babies” case and the Véronique Courgeault trial, A woman who got sentenced just six months ago for a triple infanticide. This very particular show was shot in Tours’s law court, in the very same courtroom.

Film director Jean-Xavier de Lestrade tries to push the boundaries of realism. He shot in the real court, with some of the trial’s protagonists, and he creates images that could not have left the secrecy of the court room.

Malik Nejmi documented this movie set.
