The works presented in this exhibition are the result of a residency carried out in Clermont-Ferrand between September 2015 and June 2017.
This is the first time in my life as a photographer that I have completed such a long residency. Initially, it was to last one year, then it was extended to develop a parallel collection project with the inhabitants of Clermont-Ferrand around "elsewhere". This collection will be reproduced along the tramway line in September 2018 as part of the FITE.

As part of the residency, I was asked to work in the north of the city, on the Croix-de-Neyrat, Champratel and Vergnes districts.
The beginnings were not easy because it is never easy to find your marks on places of which you know nothing.
After a few months of surveying, often lived in a great feeling of solitude, it appeared to me that it was up to me to create my reference points. Waiting for some recognition would be useless to me, it is not because an artist is invited to work on a territory that the inhabitants will necessarily want to meet him.
Of legitimacy I had none and if I wanted to have one, it was above all up to me to build it, to walk through these spaces, to simply go and meet the other.
That's what I did for the next few months. Little by little, the meetings were made and I began to photograph these districts, to find my place in this history.
One regret, perhaps, was not to be able to live for some time in these neighborhoods, but the encounters were strong and bright, and isn't that the most important?

I must admit that, far from being a simple parenthesis in all my work, this residency is totally part of the work I have been doing for a long time.
This search for oneself, this quest to know where one comes from but also - an even more important question - where one is going. The idea of the route, the path, the inscription...
Do we recognize ourselves in territories that seem to offer you a place, a legitimacy because of the presence of predetermined ties, where we grew up, where the family is, where it comes from? Or is it his life course, what we do, the ones we meet that make us register and find our place?
The Clermont-Ferrand experience proved to be an important stage in these questions.
