Magali Lambert brings the missings back to life.
Demiurge of a whimsical and poetic universe, she exhumes and pulls from oblivion neglected objects to breathe life into them through the encounters she provokes. With her series of Wonders (Spain, Belgium, France) inspired by curiosity cabinets, she conspires improbable machinery, buffoons, beautiful or nightmarish. Yet it is not precious goods that she accumulates here, but ordinary objects, natural or industrial, found in flea markets, in the street or saved from garbage. Collector, she welcomes them, assembles them then photographs these unstable and precarious encounters.

Exquisite visual corpses echoing the surrealists, her incongruous suitcase objects are photographed with a very sober scenographic device, revealing unsuspected plastic qualities, new and confusing meanings, statutory subversions: You are a wonder, she says.

Photographer as much as draftswoman or sculptor, Magali Lambert raises her Portraits of faded taxidermies of animals, drawings that she engraves on the very surface of the print, drawing hybrid animal lines, which play on coincidence as many possible resurrections. With “Les oiseaux disparus”, she brings together the naturalised birds long hidden in the reserves of the Château de Dourdan museum with the works on display - many of them portraits - and turns into a taxidermist-embalmer, creating sedimentary photographs, where time, space and death are paralysed in the image.

Through the hybridizations and encounters she imagines and stages, Magali Lambert shows us that things are never what we believe or what they seem to be. Strangeness as well as beauty smoulder in the ordinary, beyond death itself, the world can constantly be reinvented.
