Denis Dailleux, who lives in Cairo, never ceases to show the Egyptian people, with whom he fell in love fifteen years ago. Mother and Son is certainly his most personal and troubling series. With modesty and delicacy, he takes us into the intimacy of families where the son's absolute love for his mother resounds like a universally touching ode. His tender and unabashed look reveals the tenuous boundaries between protection and domination, tenderness and submission, which govern the relationship between mother and son, and perhaps more broadly, the relationship between women and men in the Mediterranean world. These twenty-four photographic portraits of rare subtlety are accompanied here by a literary text by Philippe Mezescaze, who is familiar with the photographer's work.

The series Mother and Son received an award at the prestigious World Press Photo in 2014 in the "Staged Portrait" category.
