Davide Monteleone

Festival du Regard
Parc François Mitterand
95000 Cergy-Pontoise (FRANCE)

From 2020-10-09 to 2020-11-29

For its 5th edition on the theme of "Extraordinary journeys", the Festival du Regard is exhibiting the series of Davide Monteleone's work made during a trip to North Korea.

Several times a month, a train crosses North Korea. from Pyongyang, the capital, to the border of China and Russia, in the coastal city of Rason. Davide Monteleone took it to photograph the daily life of the inhabitants and the landscapes.
Making the journey from Pyongyang to Rason is an opportunity to discover a more authentic side of the country. Behind the window of the train, the landscapes pass by: valleys and hills lush greenery, unspoiled forests, harvested fields, coastlines immaculate approaching their wild state. Few modern buildings punctuate the scenery. Inhabitants work the land or ride a bicycle.

As for the train, it remains rudimentary, though kept in a state to respond to the needs of tourists. Made on the models soviets of the 1960s, he hasn't changed much since that time. All in all, there is little evidence to show that it's 2018.
