Pablo Cabado

Pablo Cabado was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

At the age of 17, he moved with his family to Mexico City where he studied photography at the Escuela Activa de Fotografia (Active School of Photography) and the Consejo Mexicano de Fotografia (Mexican Counsil of Photography). There he attended the Taller de los Lunes under the coordination of Pedro Meyer.

In 1989 he received the Young Photographer of the Year Award from the International Center of Photography in New York. Between 1990 and 1997 he worked on his extensive project about Cuba, travelling throughout the island and staying for long periods of time in La Habana. In 1992 he lived for several months in France, during which he joined Agence VU.

In 1998, he published his first book, "Illustratives: Cuba in the 90s." published (Editions La Marca, Buenos Aires – Hong Kong). In addition, his photographs have been showed in individual and collective exhibitions throughout the USA, France, Italy, Spain, Cuba, Mexico, and Argentina. Among other distinctions, he has received the Young Photographer of the Year Award, the Infinity Award (ICP, New York), the Mother Jones Documentary Photography Award, a grant from the Fundación Antorchas (Argentina, 1994), a grant from the Fondo Nacional de las Artes (Argentina, 1999), the Gran Premio de Honor del Salon Nacional de Artes Visuales (Argentina 2000), and the John Simon Guggenheim Grant in 2002 (USA, 2002).

Pablo Cabado records the grim reality of mysterious people and animals living on the edge with a poetic eye, gently shedding light on varied life-forces gone awry. Pablo Cabado, Guggenheim Fellowship recipient in 2002, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, studied photography in Mexico City and since then has been exhibiting his photographs in the U.S., France, Italy, The Netherlands, Cuba, Mexico and Argentina. The photographs in this exhibition are a selection from two separate recent series, one in color and the other in black and white.
