Agence VU - Kyle Thompson
Kyle Thompson

Kyle Thompson was born in Chicago in 1992. Member of Agence VU since 2013.

He began taking photographs at the age of nineteen after finding interest in exploring nearby abandoned homes.
His work is mostly composed of conceptual self portraits, often taking place in empty forests and abandoned homes.
Much of his work focuses on emotional strain, loss and reconstruction, almost always using only a single subject to relay an individual's emotional response. He has no formal education in photography.

In 2014, he self-published his first book “Somewhere else”.

A visual travel memoir of conceptual photos documenting the emotional strain and release of living in the unfamiliar. Shot in a six month span while living out of a car and wandering around the United States.

I Wonder and other series (2013)

It is in natural light and settings that Kyle Thompson stages out of the ordinary situations. Those are born straight out of his imagination and photographic experimentations, made possible thanks to new realms of digital creation. The uncanny often vies with the disturbing, conveying the realm of childhood fairy tales, the teen's "horror movies", the serial killer or mystery TV series. Kyle Thompson visual...

Through an investigative study of the remaining objects, and a correspondence with those now living alone in similarly abandoned towns, Thompson creates a series of self portraits forming potential moments of the towns past using the objects left behind.
